In February, 2010, Celeste found out she was pregnant. She had been attending church with her boyfriend pretty regularly and they talked about getting married and having a family together. Her boyfriend was working out of state when she discovered that she was going to have a baby. She quickly called him and start talking about how he could move into her place and where they baby would go, until he interrupted her and said "Get rid of it." Celeste was beside herself. Did she really just hear that right? Did the man that she loved tell her to abort their baby? She didn't understand and he quickly explained that they weren't compatible and if she wanted to have the baby, he wanted nothing to do with it. She was devastated. She quickly opened her bible and started reading passages. She had called women that she went to church with support. How could she do this? Why was this happening?
Celeste was introduced to Christianity at a very young age and quickly rejected it. Her boyfriend was Christian and continued to ask her to go to church with him until finally she caved. After he walked away from her and their unborn child, Celeste continued to attend church. She had a community and was reading "The Sermon on the Mount". The pure love that Christ had for everyone he encountered had Celeste awestruck. It was so beautiful and she tried to be more Christ-like. When she was just two months pregnant, she stood up and accepted Jesus into her heart. There was a prayer for all the new church members after that was very powerful. She felt like it was the right thing for her and for her unborn child. She continued attending church through her child's early years until she was going to get married and the church rejected her fiance since he was of a different faith. That was not Christ-like! It infuriated her. First a "Christian" man abandons her and their child; and next the church is not acting as Jesus would and accepting everyone with love. She'd had it and walked away from the church. As she did, she got further and further away from her higher power and living a sober life.
